Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 38: Toyota Owners 400

#48: Alex Bowman, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet Camaro Ally

Sunday, April 18 – Richmond Raceway

“Good luck this weekend,” Alex says as he snacks on his Uncrustable while getting ready for that afternoon.

“Same to you buddy,” Alexa replies as she stands at the back of the crowd, keeping an eye on the latest run but not wanting to get too close for too much noise during the phone call. She had to find the secrets of the track, hence not wanting to totally take her eyes away. “We saw the speed and potential last weekend at Martinsville. While you keep saying you cannot drive these tracks properly, I believe in you.”

“I’d say the same to you, but we know that you know how to do this. Slide ‘em and smoke what you got as I expect a trophy when I get home. I hope you realize to the victor goes the spoils.” She couldn’t help but smile, as she was hoping to cash in and knew there was a good chance based on what she was seeing so far that day.

“I hope you’re prepared to deliver because I don’t plan on giving up this opportunity.” Alexa then hears her phone ping with a message, flipping to screen while being careful to not hang-up on Alex. “Well, that was strange….”

“What happened?” She could hear the intensity and worry in Alex’s voice immediately, as he had picked up on the tone of her voice. Certainly distance wasn’t always their best friend.

“My mom just sent me a good luck wish. She never has ever in my life sent me a good luck wish.” Alex couldn’t help but smile a little, remembering the conversations that were had and the positives, despite so much frustration afterwards all the time. He also remembered the additional messages they had left since the last meeting.

“Maybe she’s starting to come around and understand after your conversation.” Alexa laughed immediately, knowing that was practically impossible. If her mother hadn’t believed in her to this point, why now?

“Or maybe she’s afraid that she’s totally going to lose her daughter for good if she doesn’t fake some crap along the way so here she is. The best part is, though, I see through her fake cra-”

“Don’t be so quick to judge, though. You told me you saw a softer side. The same goes both ways, Alexa.” As she had all along, she appreciated his commentary and opinion. However, she had been living this life since being born and knew better.

“I allow her in, I open back up, and then boom – she slams the door even more shut than before and hurts me harder. I can’t keep doing it over and over, Alex…” Alex felt the emotion in those words, remembering the tears in her eyes at times, frustration from her every time they spoke of her mother. He wanted to balance it, but he also knew no progress would get them nowhere.

“You need to tell her that the next time you see her, so she knows and understands. If perhaps you both communicate more, something positive will happen.” Seeing Kelsey motioning for him to come her way, he knew that making this conversation any longer would not the best start to his deal. “Listen, I got to go so we’ll talk later, but don’t let this eat at you too much, don’t be so negative about it, and also focus on the task at hand today. We know you can get the job done so do it.”

Not being able to see each other and continue conversations had put a pause on the Elliott family reunion, as Samantha and Chase had been unable to make the trip to Georgia as they had originally intended.

“Do you know if Samantha is busy this week?” Chase asked Ryan as he caught up with him on the grid. Chase had wanted to get this moving along, as he felt guilty each time he saw his parents with this secret on his chest, even if he knew finding all the answers before divulging was the best course of action.

“I think she mentioned a client meeting on Monday and Thursd-” Ryan starts, though wondered why Chase was asking him. Didn’t they have each other number’s by now?

“Great. I am going to probably snag her away for the trip to Georgia on Tuesday afternoon once I am done my morning stuff at Hendrick. I already asked for the doctor’s availability and he is available during that time. Oh, and if you hear anything about your girlfriend and seeing a pregnancy doctor, I apolog-”

“What the hell is going on here?” Perhaps it was a good reason that Chase was asking Ryan about things, as Ryan felt very caught off-guard by everything he was being asked.

“I told him that I was setting up the meeting as I had a friend, Samantha, who had some questions about pregnancy and the process, and possibly finding an OBGYN for the future. I didn’t want to straight out set-up the meeting by saying this girl is the mastermind behind messed up pregnancy situations.” Ryan lets out a sigh, feeling a little relived, and to be honest, he didn’t blame Chase for the approach as he knew anyone involved in these situations typically tried to erase any evidence and connection.

“I’ll totally play along, man. I guess that’s the first step in being your future brother-in-law.” Chase’s jaw dropped with surprise in hearing Ryan say it, but it was just one of those things he was going to have get used to hearing.

“Pretty crazy how my best friend has been dating my sister for these years right under my nose without me knowing. Least I know there’s a good judge in character on both sides.” Ryan nodded his head, as it certainly added a comfort factor in decisions moving forward with Samantha.

“Just wait until we’re both related to Noah.” Chase couldn’t think of how to wrap his thoughts around that quite yet, shaking his head as Noah was certainly a mixed bag at times. However, so far, he could not complain about how he was treating Emily.

“If the truth was out in the open, Paige probably would’ve had Samantha doing full background checks and spies on the poor kid.” Ryan nods his head, not surprised that hadn’t happened already with how close the girls were.

“Have you told Paige?” Chase shakes his head no as now it was Ryan’s turn to be surprised. “Like I keep telling you and Samantha, I don’t want anyone to know until I have all the facts on the table because there’s going to be a lot of disbelief and questio-”

“I get your parents being that way, having been lied to and played. But Paige, that’s a different angle there bud. I think she’d be fully supportive, and it’d really close this circle so we could all talk about this properly, instead of trying to play secrets. I actually think Samantha would love for Paige to know so she’d have someone else to lean on that actually knows everything and everybody. How is it fair you get that opportunity but she doesn’t?” Chase takes a deep breath, as he glances back to where he knew the girls were going to be sitting that night.

“I guess there’s no harm in that….”

While the girls were at the track, Emily was unfortunately the one that was left behind.

The doctors had been able to run the additional tests necessary, determining it was a combination of arthritis and her vitamin D being low causing everything.

There was a lot of relief in knowing the cause, knowing that she could easily get better with the right care and steps in place. However, there was frustration in waiting for the process to begin helping her get better. Sure, she wasn’t as tired as she was, but she still had some rough days and was certainly not moving around as she hoped. She also knew the more weeks away from school, the further she got behind and less likely to be on the road to graduation as intended.

Thankfully, she wasn’t alone as Noah had been able to stay home due to the Xfinity Series being off. While not able to do much sucked, his company absolutely made it better and easier to deal with.

He was always cracking jokes to make her feel better. He was willing to do any errands or get anything that she needed. He also offered kisses and the cuddles as warranted to make the days easier to handle.

“If I had to bet, you’re cheering for your sister’s boyfriend today,” Noah comments as they get comfortable to watch the race from Richmond.

“It’s so weird how we both decide to date drivers with the same number,” Emily offers, to which Noah only chuckles back in response, though admittedly agreeing. “And actually, I got to tip my hat to Alex this weekend. I think the improvement he showed at Martinsville, combined with Greg doing what they need, is going to put that No. 48 in victory lane.”

“I’d have no complaints with that, but I’d rather him finish second to Joey.” Emily immediately sticks her tongue out with a big shake of the head no, as Noah just smiles. He felt confident in his choice, given Logano’s short track knowhow and Penske’s history there.

“Don’t let anyone who lives in this house hear you say that, or you’ll be hung upside down in the middle of town.” Noah knew the reference, having made the trip up to Georgia to spend the weekend with Emily as she was living at Paige and Chase’s place right now. Until she was feeling better, she knew there was no way of convincing her sister to allow her to do differently and it actually felt good to be close to family for a bit.

“Are they still mad at Denny Hamlin?” Emily nods her head, having remembered the comments spewed in each trip that she made to town in the weeks that followed after Martinsville that year. “They certainly call him the Golden Boy for a reason.”

“He may be Mr. Popular and all that to everyone, but the side of him that I’ve gotten to know from Paige, is total sweetheart, down to earth, simple, just doing his own thing. You would never believe he was this big shot if you didn’t know it.” Noah smiles with a nod, having witnessed that himself in the interactions they had shared together.

It seemed the conversation between Emily and Noah was right on point, though, as Alex found his way to the front despite starting deep in the field. While Denny dominated and Joey led some laps, Emily’s prediction was right on-point as Alex made the right move on the final restart to take the lead, and cruised away en route to scoring the victory.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the perfect day as Alex had envisioned for Alexa, as she came up one spot shy of scoring the victory in her drifting event, over sliding a couple corners. However, you wouldn’t been able to tell by their faces later that night when they reunited that it wasn’t the perfect day, as both held big smiles and kisses for the other in celebration of Alex’s achievement.

“I told you that you just needed to be confident!” Alexa tells him as she wraps both arms around him. “And I guess that means you get all the spoils tonight.”

“Then why are we still standing here?” Alex questions as he allows her to push him back against the closet door, lips clashing together as her arms find their way around his waist.

“Because I don’t know if I can my hands off you long enough to get up those stairs.” She then allows her tongue to run down his bare arm as she slips her fingers underneath the waistband of his shorts, pulling them loose and causing them to fall to the floor.

“Someone is in a hurry tonight..” She then grabs onto the bulge in his shorts, causing it to grow in size and harden instantly, with a moan escaping his lips.

“I think something else may agree with me.” She then runs her tongue along the waistband where his boxers were, before pulling them down and letting them fall to his ankles.

“Alexa….” His voice was dark and horse, every emotion and want and cry coming out as he pleaded with her name.

“Do you want something, Alex?” He nods his head as she lets just the tip of her tongue touch his bare cock for a mere second. “You know what to say.”

“Please Alexa, please baby girl…” She then takes him fully into her mouth, allowing his cock to touch every inch of her mouth and down her throat a little, before pulling back. She then brings herself close once again, this time beginning to suck ever so slightly. “Damn girl, stop teasing….”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 36: Being a Little Caring

Thursday, April 8

“I wish I was going to be there with you,” Emily comments as she lies in bed with a sigh, knowing Noah was in the midst of ensuring he had everything for tomorrow’s trip to Martinsville.

“The most important thing is you take care of yourself,” Noah answers. “Once they have the answers and you’re feeling better, we’ll be able to take plenty of trips to Martinsville together.” Emily smiled at the thought, still in partial disbelief she was laying there envisioning a future alongside this man. How did he always do this to her?

“I used to not always be a fan of going to the track, but I can say you’ve certainly changed it and now I hate being the lonely significant oth-”

“Ashley (Allgaier) isn’t goin-”

“She’s pregnan-”

“And you have a reason – you’re sick and need to take care of yourself. Remember – your health comes before anything else as how can we have a future without that?” She lets out a sigh, having grown old of hearing the constant repeat of advice from now both Noah and Paige over the past couple of weeks. Why did they insist on constantly reminding her? If anybody knew this fact, it was her. It was why she had put a pause on her all dreams, and regretfully returned back to the care of her sister.

“I know. It just sucks sometimes…” Noah didn’t need her to say that, knowing how much his stomach tore up in knots. Rather than peaceful sleeps, he was now left with wide awake nights, questioning her symptoms, what they could mean, and why they could not have a diagnosis sooner. What was taking these doctors so long?

“Look at it this way – they did say they will probably be able to give you a reason soon having ruled out several factors and done other tests. Eventually we have to get an answer.” She chuckles, admittedly finding some humor in his comments in some odd fashion.

“Unless I am the medical mystery for the rest of my life. Those do happen.” Noah did not find the same humor in the comment, but rather feeling his stomach twist just one knot tighter.

“I don’t believe that’ll be the case. I know for a fact your sister will move heaven and earth to find out what is making you ill and help you feel better – and I’d be right alongside her.” Emily appreciated the vote of confidence, and believed the statement. She had already overheard Paige’s conversations with Chase, and possibly contacting others they knew in North Carolina through Mr. Hendrick’s connections.

“You’re probably right. How about you just make me feel better by bringing home one of those clocks?” Noah smiles as he would never complain about that fact, even if it’d make things tight in the loft with already having one there from a couple years ago.

“I’ll do my best, actually beyond that. I will do whatever it takes, just for you. I love you, Emily. I believe in you…” She smiles, letting out a sigh in wishing she could feel his arms around her right now.

“I love you, too.”

That’s all she could manage to say.

She wanted to ask for him to come to Georgia and be with her, she wanted to ask for his company while he was off, and she wanted to beg for more time with him – to feel those warm, protective arms.

But she couldn’t bring herself to do it. What if she pushed too hard? What if she got too demanding and it chased him away?

Noah, meanwhile, was already one step ahead of her.

Once he was off the phone, he spent the night sending out e-mails to contacts he knew with the symptoms, inquring if they kenw a specialist that may be perfect to solve the problem. He also sent a message to Kelley, ensuring his schedule was kept as clean as possible to ensure the most time he could with her through the break.

Considering he couldn’t get rid of his stomach being tied up in knots, he was going to do everything to comfort those fears and hopefully erase them soon.

#9: Chase Elliott, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet Camaro NAPA Auto Parts

Saturday, April 10 –  Martinsville Speedway

Chase lets out a sigh as he takes a glance towards the sky. Given his aviation background and having studied many skies and radars for the purpose of preparation, he could already tell they were going to be in for a long night. The skies had already opened up some, and you could tell even with a clearing there would be more to follow.

He knew the end result was going to be postponed to Sunday, so why even show up today?

“This is ridiculous,” he comments to himself as he ensures he has his phone, wallet, and bag with suit and helmet, ready for the day ahead. Even if he didn’t believe they’d on track for long, he knew better than to leave everything behind and get stuck in a bind. Besides, he get grilled by the entire HMS staff if he didn’t follow usual procedure.

“Given your reaction, I have the assumption the weatherman was right today,” Samantha comments, bringing a slight smile to his face. “I already figured that myself, though.”

“It doesn’t take a genius to out think NASCAR sometimes.” The chuckles between them then began – until an envelope landed in his hand from her. A glance between them and no words needed to be said about the contents. “Have you opened it?”

“I have a real strong belief in the first step and the sample I collected to know what this is going to say. I thought I’d give you the honor this time.” He wasn’t sure how much to embrace or enjoy that, but certainly took it as he ripped the envelope open, not wanting to leave any additional questions any longer on the table. “Well?”

“Welcome to the family, Cassandra Elliott.” While caught off-guard initially, she actually smiled in hearing the comment. She knew she’d never change her name, but knowing her middle name was the one Cindy picked if she had a girl was fitting. Now she just had to get used to Chase using it now and then.

“Thanks, Clyde.” He couldn’t help but smirk, knowing he deserved that in return. “Or should I call you William?”

“Clyde fits better, but I wouldn’t blame you if went the other way as you’re unique.” Samantha just rolls her eyes, knowing he knew how to play the game well. “Have you told anyone?”

“Ryan knows. He knew about me being adopted, overheard the phone call, and developed the plan for the first sample. I told him that we spoke as he was worried about things being awkward if he knew a secret.” Chase nods his head, though immediately has an odd realization as he looks over at her.

“Damn – my sister is dating my best friend. That just spells all kinds of trouble.” Samantha wanted to chuckle, but felt nerves and a pit in her stomach in knowing that sometimes went the other way in other families. “I actually can’t wait to see the look on Dad’s face when he realizes that.”

“Have you told Paige?” Chase shakes his head no, as he stuck by the word in not wanting to do anything until the yhad all evidence and reasoning in hand. It was why he still wasn’t sure about taking the next step of bringing his parents into the equation.

“I don’t want to tell my parents until we speak to Dr. Lipton. This is going to shock, rock, and cause a lot of interesting feelings and turmoil for them – more so than I am feeling so I understand this not being easy. I want to go to them with the most information we have possible and feel we need to learn what Dr. Lipton has to say.” Samantha nods her head, having already been set in figuring out the best way to speak to the doctor.

“I am curious myself for my own story and ability. What causes a man to want to hide a baby from a mother? What causes someone to go to those lengths? How did he pull it off with the hospital? I want to find out for my own self, and for the reasons you stated for your par-”

“Our parents.” Samantha nods her head, taking a couple deep breathes. That was certainly going to take getting used to as she still couldn’t believe this was her brother standing right beside her.

“But I also want to know for possible other people who reach out to me for similar answers. How do you explain to them a scenario like this? Maybe if I have a doctor’s motivation, like Dr. Shepherd as I told you, right or wrong it at least gives them reasoning to the story.” Chase couldn’t argue with her as certainly hearing someone’s reasoning allowed you to be in their shoes for a brief second, and sometimes brought comfort.

“I can fly you down from North Carolina to Georgia one day and we can set up the meeting. Alternatively, you can drive down. Heck, you can even tell Ryan the real reason for the trip and come spend some time with Paige and I.” He then glances towards where Paige was, flashing a smile, before focusing back on Samantha. “I know that I should tell her – I’m curious as to her reaction, too. Maybe I’ll tell her before you make the trip so she understands why.”

“She may get jealous of the time we’re spending together.” Chase couldn’t help but smirk at the thought, but he also knew something else.

“I know how much she loves and cherishes me. She wouldn’t let someone just take me away that easily.” Samantha smiled, hopeful those words were true, as they were a couple she was rooting for.

“I also told Alanna that I am adopted, so we have some understanding in each other’s stories. I shared with her some route to where we are, but not about you being my brother quite yet.” Chase also understood her motivation there, as well. He had heard from Ryan about Samantha being tied up in a case, unable to solve it, and always reflecting back to it once in awhile with hopes of a change.

“I was surprised that you easily allowed her to move in with you and Ryan. I hope you know what you’re doing as I wouldn’t want it to backfire. Just be careful, okay?” Samantha nods her head, surprised by the commentary as it wasn’t like Chase to come out with something like that previously. Was this a product of being related now?

“Don’t worry – I think I know better than most how quickly things can turn into a dumpster fire.” Chase nods his head, having heard about her road to get to this point from previous conversations.

“I’m glad, because trust me when I say this – I wouldn’t want something to happen to you.”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 35: Moving Places

Sunday, April 4 – Dawsonville, Georgia

Emily takes a deep breath, wishing she could be anywhere but here right now. She glances over her shoulder, knowing the only reason she hadn’t ran away was due to the gentleman beside her.

“We should go,” she says quietly, to which Noah shakes his head no right away, wrapping his arms around her shoulders.

“No, she needs to know,” he replies. It was his idea to make the trip across the country. It was his idea for her to say something, and continue this process with comfort – surrounded by those who loved her, and family. She rejected, knowing what Paige was like in these circumstances – and knowing someone overbearing could screw up her plans.

“Let’s do this tomorrow – please.” It was Easter. Emily remembered the last family reunion – Christmas, and how that resulted in a fight before Chase and his parents. Was she ready to repeat the same circumstance? “Besides, I feel bad enough that you’re missing Easter with your famil-”

“They agreed that taking care of you was most important. Besides, Grandpa says we can go golfing anytime.” She couldn’t help but smile as it was always refreshing to hear how close he was with his family – even if hers seemed to be the opposite.

“So there’s no way I am getting out of this?” Noah shakes his head no as he reaches over her shoulder, knocking on the door.

It wasn’t long until they were greeted by Bill, met with surprise in seeing them there on Easter but trying to hide it. It wasn’t long before Emily and Paige were in their own room, with Emily laying everything out on the table.

“You weren’t going to tell me originally….” Paige lets out once Emily was done explaining everything, getting a shake of the head no.

“Noah convinced me,” Emily confesses. “To tell you the truth, Paige, I really didn’t want to say anything because I know you can be overbearing, over-trying, and a pain in the ass. I really can’t deal with that and it was actually nice being in my own bubble. However, as Noah says, it’s best that I have some family in case things get worse – and who knows what’ll happen once we figure what’s wrong.”

“How does this affect your doctors?” If she was in the process of trying to solve a mystery, that’d mean seeing doctors at the other end of the country. What happened now?

“They agreed to transfer everything to specialist here in Georgia. They felt it may be beneficial as they were coming up empty handed.” Paige takes a deep breath, glad that she had at least taken the right steps that way.

“I know our relationship hasn’t always been full of angels and greatness, but you have to understand that I would do anything for you. Obviously, your health triumphs everything and I know you call me overbearing – but it’s out of love. Don’t ever forget that as you can always turn to me.” Emily nods his head, accepting, almost feeling bad for having kept quiet for weeks now. “And for the record, I guess Noah isn’t as bad as I thought.”

“I told you he was a great guy…” Paige couldn’t help but smile as she glanced towards where Noah stood in the doorway, feeling quite a bit better.

#12: Ryan Blaney, Team Penske, Ford Mustang Advance My Track Challenge

Monday, April 5 – North Carolina

“Is that everything?” Ryan asks as he sets down the last box in the room which was set to be Alanna’s.

“That’s all that I brought,” she answers as she glances over the collection. “Thank you once again, Ryan. You don’t understand how much this means to me.” Ryan smiles as he looks in her direction, trying to be polite, but also eying her as this was the first time they’d crossed paths.

“It’s not a problem. You mean a lot to Samantha, so I don’t mind helping you.” She smiles, though couldn’t help but feel a weight on her shoulders. What if this plan failed? “May I ask why you wanted to move?”

“To be honest, I’ve come up short on money with losing my job, couldn’t afford the rent, and I looked towards the one person that I knew I could trust. Desperation makes you do whatever you can to survive – and I don’t know what I’d do if you guys said no.” It was that desperation which also had gotten her in this bind in the first place.

“Well, I’m glad we could help. I know some people who work with businesses looking for some help, so I can certainly help you with landing your feet.” She nods her head, accepting the offer, glad he was buying what she was offering. “And, for the record, I know we’re strangers but you can trust me and tell me if something is going on.”

“If I need someone to talk to, I’ll certainly keep your offer in mind,” as she truly did want to share everything with someone finally. “And while we may be strangers, I know I can probably trust you considering you’re willing to let me in your home as a stranger. It says a lot about you, Ryan.”

“I always try to do the best that I can for people, in hope that I get the same in return. I’m making steak for dinner – I don’t know if you eat that meat, but I’d be willing to make up an extra plate.” While it wasn’t her favourite meat, she wasn’t about to ruffle feathers on day one.

“Thank you, I appreciate that. I can certainly help you later with dishes and chores around the house.” Ryan smiles as it was certainly a nice compromise.

Once he was out of the room, she let out the deep sigh she’d be holding in, glancing around. She wanted this to feel right. She wanted to feel safe and different than where she was before. She wanted to believe this was her true second chance to start over.

However, she knew better than that. She knew what he was like and willing to do to get his way. It’s why she felt like she was just counting seconds and minutes to his arrival.

#12: Ryan Blaney, Team Penske, Ford Mustang Advance My Track Challenge

Austin took a deep breath, not believing he was possibly doing this. She had moved on – probably closer with Chase than he could imagine. She’d probably think it was weird that someone was still chasing after her.

Heck, he didn’t even know if she still had the same cell number – but here he was, calling it, fingers crossed behind his back.

“Hello?” He hears at the other end, causing his breath to catch in his throat.

“I see you haven’t changed your phone number,” were the only words that found their way out of his mouth, and he knew they could be taken in several different ways.

“How can I help you, Austin?” It wasn’t as sweet and endearing as he hoped for, but it wasn’t a total turn off either.

“I was wondering if we could talk and catch-up. I realized we drifted apart and how much I hate it when we crossed paths there.” Did he sound too desperate?

“Austin, we were never talkative or close to the point we really knew nothing about each other – except for one thing, which you were good at might I add.” She purposely added that – which just made him lick his lips in remembering her, and smile with a bit of his own pride. “What makes you think that conversation and everything as friends will come now? If anything, it may be even more awkward – hence why friends with benefits doesn’t always work. I also got a lot going on right now, too, to where I don’t know if I have the time.”

“I understa-”

“Trust me when is I say this – I’m not purposely blowing you off. I really actually do have things going on, from a new job to my sister’s health. If my life was more aligned and simple, I’d certainly give it a try for the sake of everything we had.” He takes a deep breath, feeling a bit better in hearing that addition upon his initial hesitation.

“Well for what it’s worth, I hope your sister is okay, and I hope we can catch up in the future. I mean it when I say – I miss you.” He bit his tongue immediately, knowing he was coming off too strong.

“I appreciate the sentiment, but like I told – I’ve moved on with Chase. I really don’t see that changing, either, knowing how much he’s changed and helped me. I’m sorry but I’m trying to let you down easy and understand expectations.” Yep, he had made himself look like an ass.

“I understand fully and completely. It’s always better to be honest, right? Look, you have my number now so feel free to reach out and check in if you want. Hopefully we can be friends. Bye Paige.”

“Don’t beat yourself up, Austin. You’ll find someone who equals your sentiments and wants to be with you the same way, be your equal. Goodbye Austin.”

“Goodbye.” He then presses the hang up button, taking a couple deep breathes.

He had talked. He had confessed – but now felt even worse with having a door slammed in the face. They say it’s better to know the truth – but sometimes, it was better to not know and be able to dream up your own assumptions.

Paige, on the other hand, immediately forced herself to put the conversation and any feelings out of her mind, heading to the guest room to check in on Emily.

“Are you okay?” She asks quietly, following a small knock on the door.

“Tired, but I’m okay,” Emily answers, though certainly had other things she was about to add – still feeling the ache throughout her body.

“Let me know if you need or want anything. I can help you with whatever.” Paige takes a deep breath, allowing herself to come into the room some more. “I may be what you called in being overbearing, over concerning, but I just want what’s best for you…”

“I know, and I appreciate it….” Emily wanted to add more, telling her to back off already, but knew to be nice in knowing the hospitality being offered.

Paige went to say more – but instead bit her tongue, retreating back to down the hall where she was prior.

She was then brought back into her thoughts, having lots of questions about the past couple of days.

What did she really think of Austin? Should she reach out for conversation? Was it worth opening the can of worms?

Why was Samantha and Chase having what looked to be a down-to-earth conversation at Bristol? Why was she so scared to ask Chase about it? Why hadn’t Chase told her anything about it?

Could Alanna really be trusted? Was Samantha making the right move allowing this mystery adoptive girl to move in? What would happen moving forward with her?

Was Emily really going to be okay? How long would it take to answer their questions? Why were the answers taking so long? How badly was this, truly? What would they need to do?

Taking a deep breath, she leaned back against the doo rand knew one thing for certain – life was never simple. It was always full throttle, whether behind the wheel or trying to navigate each day. She’d made it this far, proving she was up for the challenge, giving her the confidence she’d make it through the next phase okay –as long as her sister was okay.

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 33: Playing Games

Saturday, March 27 – Bristol Motor Speedway

“Damn it!” Chase lets out as he gets shot in the game, shaking his head as he takes a sip of his drink.

What else were you supposed to do while the rain fell outside? For Chase, it was time to get a couple rounds of Fortnite in. Considering he hadn’t played for awhile, it was showing with some very sloppy moves getting him eliminated.

“You’re quiet,” he comments as he glances towards Paige sat on the couch, looking out the window, watching the rain steadily fall.

“What do you expect me to do?” She questions, a little caught off-guard by his comment as he normally falls into concentration with his game and nothing is heard.

“A little conversation, company. Is that allowed? You just seem distant…” Her eyes hadn’t left the window, weaving through the motorcoaches outside.

She couldn’t get her mind off of yesterday – the chance meeting, seeing him again, being transported back to those moments right away. Now with the rain falling, she remembered the time he came and stayed at her apartment rather than the motorhome at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which turned into quite the night.

She shouldn’t be surprised to see them cross paths. In fact, she expected it to happen sooner being with Chase. However, she had kept telling herself it didn’t matter –that was in the past. Though now it seemed like a brick wall right before her.

She thought about telling Chase about her past with Austin. She would break down how they met, what happened, and the fact it was just about having fun together and nothing more – perhaps a bandaid for everything. However, she couldn’t bring herself to say the words. What would he say in response?

“I didn’t want to bother you while you were trying to play considering you’re having a hard enough time keeping yourself alive there,” she lies, as she finally takes her eyes off the window to look at him.

“I’d like to see if you could do better,” he offers, to which she shakes her head no. They both already knew the answer as she wasn’t one to play a lot of video games. “You know what, forget it. I’ve probably wasted enough time doing this anyway. How about we play a game together?”

“A game together?” He nods his head as he puts the video system away, retreating to the cupboard that held various board and card games for when they had friends over. It had originally been Paige’s idea, but it seemed Chase opened the doors more than she would.

“I might as well help you become not bored so we can both pass the time doing something here…” She knew it was probably better than thinking about every theory surrounding Austin in her head. Maybe that’s all she needed – a distraction.

“You can pick because I know no matter whatever you put before me, I’m winning.” She watches as he pulls a box from the cupboard, going over to the little table and sitting on it. She joins it, smirking as she looks over the choice of game. “Sorry?”

“That’s what you’ll be asking me to say when I kick your ass.” She looks on surprised, though was willing to accept the challenge. This shouldn’t be too hard, right?

The idea of playing card games was spread around the motorcoach lot, with the same happening in the Bowman coach. They had resorted to something more simpler, with Go Fish taking place at the table.

“What do you know about your mom outside of her career?” Alex questions in-between rounds as Alexa shuffles the deck.

“Why do you have to ruin today with discussion about her?” Alexa wonders, to which Alex lets out a sigh. He wasn’t surprised by the response, but couldn’t help but think over what Greg said to him.

“My day is ruined by the rain already so I might as well pass along the good vibes..” She rolls her eyes in response, still not wanting to dive down this road. Why did he keep at the topic?

“Why do you seem to care so much about my mom?” Alex couldn’t explain it. Part of him wanted the family approval as he had always been close with his own. The other part of him wanted to solve the puzzle, give Alexa the complete cycle of happiness rather than wondering what could be.

“Can you please not be stubborn and answer the ques-”

“My mom doesn’t share much about herself, if anything at all. When I was younger, all I can think of how she was focused on the business, doing what she could. It was why even the trips we took were business focused. You wouldn’t see her going to some concert or event for fun.” Alex was intrigued by that, knowing everybody needed some sort of stress relief at some point.

“So there’s no hobbies?” Alexa shakes her head no. “Then what does she do for fun?”

“Spread sheets.” Alex couldn’t help but laugh in response.

“Stress release?” Alexa shrugs her shoulders, never having seen her mother do that. sometimes she wondered if that was the missing piece and she was instead venting at everyone.

“Now, can you answer my question?” Alex didn’t want to really say that he had been talking to Greg about her and her mom. He didn’t want to make this a bigger deal than it seemed to her, considering how uptight and defensive she got about him trying to do something.

“Sometimes a person can be pushed so much in one direction, not wanting to allow someone else to push in another because their dreams failed, because of something that happened. I wonder if she avoids everything because of that.” Alexa was actually now intrigued by the theory, as it matched alongside that CJ had suggested in trying to find the driving reason behind why she acted how she did.

“So you figure if you can discover that, offer some sort of cure and therapy, she’ll somewhat turn from the devil to an angel?” Alex wasn’t sure either way, but what else were they supposed to do?

“Nothing else has worked. What’s the worst that can happen?” Alexa laughs, knowing Alex had only caught a glimpse of the type of mother she had through his experiences so far. “I know you continue to think the worst of her, but there’s got to be something nice in there. After all, your father shows some sympathy and he married her. You also come from them and you have a good heart – so that came from somewhere.”

“I’ve also been told I’m crazy, so I guess that comes from her, too…” Alex didn’t know whether to laugh or not, wondering just how sarcastic she was being right now. “It’s why I look between us and really wonder how we make this work sometimes.”

“People have always told me I’m different and strange for the things that I do. I guess that makes us two peas in a pod.” She was willing to go with it, even if she wondered sometimes just how this would work down the road. “Just like next weekend. Most people would be like spend the holidays relaxing, enjoying your time away from the track, go see your family – and we’re heading cross country to go play with cars.”

“There’s something strange about doing that?” Alex nods his head, having heard the response from others around him. It hadn’t changed his mind, though, in knowing the trip had several reasons to have fun. “Please don’t ever let me be normal.”

“Not a single chance, because then we wouldn’t be compatible.”

Saturday, March 27 – California

With a focus on Emily taking care of herself, Noah had been doing whatever he could around her dorm. He even went ahead and did some house cleaning – which was surprising considering he wasn’t even willing to do that for himself much.

However, even knowing she was feeling a little off, they were both intent on making his trip special so that’s why they elected to go out to dinner Saturday night, choosing one of the local restaurants that Emily heard fellow classmates raving about.

Though as they sat halfway through dinner, Emily found herself shilling out more yawns than expected, more than she had probably ever done. In additionally, she even debated curling up and having a nap.

“Are you okay?” Noah questions as he looks up from his plate to catch her eyes. she simply nods her head, though he could see it all over her face. “If you want, we can head back to the dorm…”

“You’re enjoying your dinner,” she comments, feeling mixed thoughts as she looked at the food on her plate. How could she eat this if she could barely keep her eyes open? “I don’t want to ruin your meal or our time out togeth-”

“You wouldn’t be doing that. I can warm up the rest of my dinner after we get back.” He then sets his fork down, reaching across the table to brush the top of her hand – caught off-guard by how cold it was despite the warmth of the restaurant. “We don’t need to be in some fancy restaurant for our time to be special – just being with you is that way for me, as I love every minute we get together. Though we both know you’re not feeling well, and you should be taking care of yourself – that includes knowing when you need rest..”

“I just hate this because you came here to spend time with me while you’re off and I’m ruin-”

“It’s okay. Besides, I’m actually glad I came out to see you so I could take care of you.” He then gives her a hand a light kiss, before motioning before the waiter to come over.

“I just hate this. It’d be so much better if I had some answers from the doctor.” She felt the tears from earlier threatening to fall, quickly wiping them away as Noah reached over and squeezed her hand.

“It’s going to be okay. You’re going to be okay, Emily. Everything is going to work out..”

Once their plates were packaged up and he paid for the dinner, he took her back to her dorm room, where he tucked her into bed, making a hot chocolate to sip on as he finished the rest of his meal.

As he got near the end of the food, he glanced up and his eyes locked on her, feeling so much all at once. He didn’t want to fall quickly and he didn’t want to over panic, but damn, he felt so much worry and pain seeing her in this situation right now.

How was he supposed to go home for Easter this coming week if she didn’t improve?

Saturday, March 27 – Bristol Motor Speedway

With the race being postponed, the usual was happening throughout the driver motorcoach lot, as various ones got together for either movie night or game night.

For Austin, it was game night with a couple teammates and his brother. Though as they played the latest round of Cards for Humanity, he found himself distracted – stuck on the encounter from earlier in the weekend.

“Can I tell you something?” He breaks the silence that had fallen over the room, catching a couple of his table mates off-guard.

“It’d be nice if you could take your damn turn,” Tyler Reddick offers, resulting in a surprising glance in return from Austin’s brother Ty. “But you have seemed distant all night so I guess we could listen.”

“I ran into my ex on Frida-”

“Wendy?” Ty questions, disgust entering him immediately. He didn’t even want to think about how that relationship played out.

“Nope, before her,” Austin clarifies, causing confusion around the room. “This goes back like four years ago now actually. We were hook up buddies. I met her at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and then found myself driving to Georgia a couple times a week just to see her. No strings attached, no conversation – all focused on one thing alone. We both enjoyed the time we spent together in bed and in truth, I think we were both the perfect distraction therapy for each other, like an escape from reality. Well, she’s here this weekend – with another driver and we ran into each other in the driver’s lot yesterday.”

“The big question – who?” Austin takes a deep breath, knowing the jaws would drop upon saying it. It was why he stopped himself from saying her name – did he really want that connection and discussion just yet?

“They’re dating, but damn, that one look into each other’s eyes, and I can’t stop thinking about everything. I almost asked her if she wanted to hook-”

“Who?” Tyler questions, obviously getting annoyed without the truth.

“She told me they were committed, but you could see the longing glance as I walked away,” Austin continues, totally ignoring the questions in the room. “I don’t think I realized until now just how much she meant to me, how much I should’ve told her, how much she affected me. And I fear it’s too late because she’s with him.”

“Who?” Tyler and Ty now ask at the same time.

“Paige.” Both of their jaws drop immediately, knowing exactly whom he was referring to now. Anybody who had Instagram had seen the couple images dropped by the couple.

“So what are you going to do?” Ty questions, trying to ignore the elephant in the room. Truthfully, he cared about his brother’s feelings more than everything else connected.

“I want to reach out, I want to tell her the truth,” Austin confesses. “I can’t stop thinking about her and I feel I won’t move on until I tell her everything. I want to just spill the tea, and tell her what I feel. Maybe she’ll realize that we weren’t truly over as intended.”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 32: Doing What’s Best For You

Friday, March 26 – Bristol Motor Speedway

Greg Ives glances over at Alex, watching him closely, before retreating back to his notes. However, it wasn’t long before he was back looking towards his driver.

“For someone whose been really looking forward to this race and in his element, you don’t seem happ-” Greg starts, catching Alex off-guard and surprised. Was his mood about everything going on with Alexa really coming through?

“The Ally Chevrolet is great, Greg,” he tells him, hoping that’d be the end of conversation. It wasn’t like the pair discussed their personal life commonly. It was more do their work together, get the job done, and have some fun along the way.

“Then what seems to be the problem?” Alex lets out a sigh as he glances back towards his phone, seeing the latest text message from CJ. That’d be another way to lie – say it was based on the weather the sprint car guys were facing, but Greg was probably smart enough to read through that lie.

“Alexa-”

“Uh oh….” Greg knew of Alex’s previous relationship and how it fell apart. Seeing the dread on his face and laced in his voice, he worried they were headed down a similar path. Heartbroken Alex was no fun for anybody.

“Everything is fine between us before you say anything. Actually, I don’t think it could be greater because we both love and support each other, want to be there for each other. It’s just drama with her parents. They have never approved her decisions, and she says it doesn’t bother her – but she’s tried to reach out past couple years and more so these past couple months, and has gotten nowher-”

“And now you’re worried about her even though she continues to tell her that it doesn’t bother her?” Greg finishes it off, to which Alex just nods his head in return. “You said it yourself – you’re in love, you care about her, and you’d probably give her the world. That’s why you don’t want anything to be wrong for her, whether fixable or not, and that’s why you push to be there for her. These feelings and reaction to her saying it’s fine is okay.”

“I actually called her parents a month ago and tried to work some magic myself. It was the opposite. It actually gave me a glimpse into her world and broke me further. How could someone literally slap your dreams in the face and tell you you’re a failure because you won’t go into their business?” Greg shakes his head, surprised in the response.

“Someone who doesn’t understand how much work goes into the business that we’re in. Someone who thinks you just turn left and do nothing else.” Alex chuckles, having heard that quite a few times from random friends – till they rode in the passenger seat of a car and got an eye-opener.

“Maybe I need to take them for a two-seater ride…” Greg looks on a little horrified as he thinks over what Alex is saying.

“Always business oriented, wanting her to focus on money and do nothing else but pure professionalism is what they are instilling, correct?” Alex nods his head, curious as to the direction Greg was going with this. “What do you know about her parents? Because I know people react and do things as a cause and effect, they always have a reason because something happened or logic filled that. You tell me how the car is handling, and I make a change as a reaction to improve it. I almost won-”

“Her mother is a very grumpy person, turned off against Alexa doing something different. What if her dreams didn’t turn out? What if she wanted to do something, and instead got pushed down the directions he did?” Greg smiles, glad that Alex picked up what he was getting to easily.

“To understand why a person does something is to understand what makes them who they are. Get to know her. Find out why she makes the decisions she does. Instead of focused on Alexa and you, turn the table and ask about how she got into business – and her interests. It may surprise you, and give you a way to relate.” Alex was surprised to hear the advice, and have some renewed hope. However, it also took him back to Alexa’s last words for him from the final conversation.

“For the first time in what felt like forever, she thought she found a common ground with her mother. Her mother kept insisting handing her the business, and she told her mother why would you give it to someone who doesn’t have the same passion? Why would you want to give it to someone who may crush all your hard work at once? They found a common understanding in that hard work, not wanting to throw it away. I think there’s something she had to throw away….”

#48: Alex Bowman, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet Camaro Ally

Friday, March 26

Alanna glanced over the suitcase, standing back with a smile. It was the last bag she had packed – ensuring every piece of clothing she did not want to leave behind was within the fabric.  Before that, she had loaded her truck with other luggage she did not want left behind – from clothes to random furniture artifacts.

The note was already written for her landlord, in stating she needed a change in pace and was moving across the country. She had included her last month’s rent, with a note to do as he wished with the rest of her belongings.

Knowing she needed a break, she sat down on the floor, back against the wall, sipping a bottle of juice while snacking on some grapes. She picked up her phone, allowing her eyes to rest on the number that had texted her.

50 unanswered text messages. 10 within the time she had spent packing all of her crap during that day alone. 5 written in capital letters demanding an answer.

She resisted every single urge to send a message to go off a cliff to the person. She resisted every single urge to allow him back into her life, knowing she needed the distance, knowing this was the right decision for herself.

Though hearing the familiar ring tone she’d grown used to over the past several months, it was almost too much to bare anymore.

“I told you to stop calling me,” she says as soon as she allows her fingers to touch the answer button. “Haven’t you gotten a clue yet?”

“I think you forgot about our little deal,” he responds back in return, chuckle laced in her voice as usual. It was almost comical – till you realized it was cruel.

“I never made a deal. I wouldn’t ever sell my soul to the devil.” The devil seemed to be an accurate description, considering the crackle she heard in return and the tone of his voice as always.

“You ain’t no angel either, princess. That’s what got you in this situation to begin with. You should be thanking me for getting you ou-”

“I did thank you. I told you thank you a bunch of times. I paid you back what I owed you. Isn’t that enough?” Knowing what she knew now, she probably wouldn’t had allowed him to be her savior that night.

“You would’ve been dead, or trapped in a circle of torture without me saving your filthy ass. I should’ve left you to be trash just like you are.” She takes a deep breath, trying to not allow his comments to seep into the holes of her heart – but feeling too broken already from his constant words.

“You’re the trash – not me, remember? That’s why I told you to kick roc-”

“Because you’re afraid,” which wasn’t a lie as she knew he was right in those words. “You’re afraid that you’re going to let your guard down and show all your true friends what I know about you – how filthy you can be. The fact that you are walking the devil’s road in your decisions even if it appears you’re wearing a halo to your friends. You can’t hide forever, Alanna. I will find you. I will get my hands on you, and I will teach you what you need to know. You need to be taught a lesson, young lady.”

“Fuck you.” She then hangs up, knowing she couldn’t bare to listen to anymore, but knowing even more that she was doing the right thing in moving – again.

Though for the first time, she was going to a place where she had friends, ones she hoped could make everything better as they seemed to do in their message.

Friday, March 26  – Los Angeles, California

Knock. Double knock. Knock. Double knock. It was a constant pattern, and all Emily could ask – who was at the door?

Despite the unwillingness in wanting to move a single inch, she finally gave in to the constant knocking and went to the door opening it. Seeing the individual before her, her jaw dropped immediately.

“Noah?” She questions, absolutely stunned and shocked by his visit. “What are you doing here?”

“I have an off-weekend, and as we said, we both want to spend every single damn waking moment togeth-” Emily remembered the conversation, but still didn’t expect for them to cross paths today.

“I thought you’d still go to Bristol to catch the spectacle of dirt for the first time…” He shakes his head no, as he finally allows himself to take in the sight before him. She was beautiful – part of the original attraction, and she certainly didn’t offer reasons to look away. However, something was off.

“That’s what TV is for, but if you don’t want me here I can go…” He didn’t know why she’d have a reason to do that, considering their constant text messages, late night phone conversations wishing for time together. Now having two weeks off in a row, wasn’t it time to take advantage? “Are you alright, Emily?”

“I just have a lot going on….” She then takes a deep breath, allowing herself to fully take in the past couple weeks. “A classmate tested positive for COVID. I started feeling sick, and I got tested and it’s negative. However, a couple weeks later, I’m still crappy…”

“Have you seen a doctor?” She nods her head, remembering the latest appointment. It was at that moment she walked away from the door, allowing him to follow her inside. There was no hiding anything anymore as she’d already said enough he would not go away without explanation. It was easy to hide over the phone and text, but definitely not standing eye-to-eye.

“Aches, chills, a cough here and there – and yet there’s no reasons behind why according to the doctor based on the tests they’ve done. It’s now waiting for a specialist to look it over, order more tests, and see if they come up with anything.” She leans back against the wall, a tear trickling down her cheek for the first time. “I feel like a human test subject, test dummy, and I don’t know what to do at times…”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Noah felt offended in being kept out of the loop, believing they had enough trust to be there for each other no matter what.

“I don’t know. I guess I was afraid. I guess I thought it was nothing originally. People get sick – they figure what it is, take some drugs, and it’s dealt with. I didn’t want you to worry for no reason.” Noah walks right up there, face-to-face, wiping the stray tear that remained on her cheek away.

“It wouldn’t be worrying for no reason, because frankly, I care so much about you that I think about you any day anyway. It’s okay to let someone in. You don’t have to – and shouldn’t go through this alone. I love you, and I want to be there for you.” He then pulls her off the wall, letting her body collapse against his as he wraps an arms around her tightly. “I’ve got you, and I’m not letting you go. Let me be there. Let me take care of you. This week, I am doing everything for you…”

“I don’t think you could do my homework for me….” Noah thinks it over, though knew she was right. Even though he had some good suggestions in regards to design, he wasn’t about to divulge his way into her textbooks.

“I’ll do everything else, though. I can hold you, cuddle you, let you express your fears, warm you up, make food, do errands – let me make this as easy as possible on you. Your main focus should be trying to take care of yourself.” She takes a deep breath, nodding, remembering those words being repeated by Paige as well.

“It’s just hard to take a step back when I’ve worked this hard to get to this point…” Noah nods his head, knowing where she was going with this.

“Sometimes you have to do what’s best for you – and you alone. This, all of this, will be waiting for when you are better. But if you don’t take care of yourself and do the right thing, you’ll never get to write the last chapter of accomplishing everything.”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 27: Family Feelings

Sunday, March 14 – Charlotte, North Carolina

Alexa kicks off her shoes, followed by hanging her sweater on the hooks by the door. Making a b-line for the kitchen, ready to clench her thirst, she pulls her phone out of pocket.

Alexa
7:00pm
Just got home. Can’t wait to see u. Luv u, and miss Finn.

She then opens the fridge door, letting out as she glances over the shelves. It seemed they had plenty of food and snacks, or just nothing at all. When it came to double A, they seemed to get into snacky moods where they’d eat everything all together.

That didn’t matter right now, though, as she just wanted drink – and was able to clench her thirst with a bottle of Gatorade.

Alex
7:02pm
Finn misses u too – more than me, maybe. We’ll see. Luv u.

She could only roll her eyes, not surprising such a text from Alex as it seemed right along his style to send. With having been together a couple years now, she’d grown used to his usual antics.

She sits on the couch, allowing herself to flip through the rest of the messages on her phone. It seemed everybody she knew except a few had sent something in reference to her drift performance that past weekend.

Following up a good start to the year at Freedom Factory, she backed it up with one of her best ever – taking high scores for the victory to kick off the actual points campaign on a high. Now she just needed to keep the momentum going.

It was why she almost wanted to load video, begin reviewing everything before heading out to the shop for usual maintenance and improvements. Instead, she did not move from the couch, as her eyes laid on a familiar phone number. It seemed everyone close to her had sent a message except two people – her parents. Usually, her father may sneak off something quick if he heard anything, but that didn’t seem to be the case this time around.

This was something that hadn’t bothered her previously, but seemed to be crossing her mind right now as she thought about the conversation shared with Alex and CJ.

Being in a good mood, against better judgment, her finger firmly pressed the button as she repeated CJ’s advice over in her mind.

“Alexa, have you come to your senses dear?” She hears immediately on the phone, wishing she’d never phoned in the first place, finger daring her to hit the hang up button before the rest of her world was crushed. “Are you ready to come home?”

“The complete opposite, actually,” she replies back, though bites her tongue afterwards. She hadn’t meant to come across so sternly but she couldn’t help it. Why was she forced to take this? The least her mother could’ve done was started off with a hello. “I just came off my first big event of the year, with a win, once again proving that I know what I’m doing. Besides, I am home.”

“Did you just call to gloat, or get praise and appreciation? I could understand if you’re underappreciated, sweetheart.” She almost broke out laughing, and probably would’ve if not for the tears threatening to fall.

“I am very much appreciated, actually. I have plenty of fans and I have Alex, too.” She almost probably would’ve lashed out and broke down now if it wasn’t Alex’s calm presence in her life.

“So far all I hear is gloating, which is the definition of someone looking for somethi-”

“The reason I called is actually to ask you a question about your feelings and opinion, as part of my attempt to connect with you in a way that we have never been able to. However, it seems you keep wanting to judge me because I won’t fit the perfect mold that you have created.” It seemed more true than ever with the spitefulness seeming to grow with each phone call as the distance grew further apart, with realization hitting in she was beginning to form deeper bonds with Alex and others.

“I have offered my opinion on your decisions, and your response was to simply defy every single part of that order and run off chasing empty dreams and false satisfaction. Sure, you are on a high tonight. Sure, you’ll be on a high for the time that you are doing this. But what comes next? Where does your life go from there? Do you have a career and set path? Or will everything fizzle out and turn to nothing?” Alexa takes a deep breath, remembering the discussion her and Alex had together. It seemed all her mother cared about was money, having it, and never running out of it. Who cared if you were happy then or now.

“I have explained myself, before. I think it’s your turn to explain yourself. Why do you want this for me? Why do you want me to follow your instructions, your path?” It had taken longer than intended – thanks to her mother’s stubbornness, but it had finally been asked.

“I’m a mother. I want what’s best for my chil-”

“What’s best for a child is their happiness. This makes me happy. Being in your environment doesn’t make me happy.” She hadn’t meant to cut her mother off, and that probably went against CJ’s advice, but it had to be said. What was good for one wasn’t always for another.

“Happiness on the short term current moment is one thing, but what about down the road? I am looking out for your future, whereas you’re not.” Alexa could already tell the path this discussion was heading back down.

“Alex and I explained to you as to why the future would be okay, if you were listening. Everybody’s path is different, just as you’re different from Dad. Why do you feel my path should be identical?” In her mind, she was just running around in circles by asking these questions. But at least when she vented to the others later, she’d have everything they’d ask her off the table.

“I’ve built this business and I believe it’ll have a long future, many years and generations down the road. When you begin a business, you’re fulfilling a dream of yours to do something. But then beyond that, building a business, seeing the hard work and dedication, time, you realize there’s a payoff for the future. I always believed, wanted, hoped, and still know that my child could carry it further down the road, another generation. This was my way to ensure the family would be set for years and years ahead. I feel as though you’re ripping apart the family in doing this, Alexa.” Alexa wanted to vent back to her mother, but couldn’t find the strength to yell a response. Instead, she was defeated as she sat back on the couch. For the first time, she was beginning to get to know the emotional elements of the lady whom raised her.

“I understand your vision, and I fully get it as I know what it takes to work for something. It’s how I envision my contributions to drifting and the female movement carrying forward to those beyond me. I would understand why you’d be upset to see it fade away down the road. However, can a business succeed if someone who doesn’t want to run it be at the helm? No, because they don’t have the passion to do the hard work. That’s why instead of pushing myself, whom doesn’t share that passion is wrong, but rather maybe you should be looking at your workers, those you know, and asking who’d be fit to take over the reins one day.” It was the first time she offered her mother advice. It was the first time she’d spoke about business with her mother. It was the first time she’d gone to an emotional spot with her since a child, and it felt good for a change.

“The person who runs a business with their heart and passion does not succeed, because they allow those feelings to get in the way. It is why you need to simply take the heart out of it, and go based on sole reas-”

“I don’t have the ability to focus solely on the numbers, the work, everything that you do. I don’t have the ability in me to work hard at that like you do, as it’s not me. But I’m sure you have some employee that does, and whom make a great president down the road.”

“For the first time, I actually agree with what you’re saying as you may have a point. I wouldn’t want to hand my business off to a slacker, someone who allows her freedoms and passions to get in the way of real life adult decisions in doing something to ensure her future get the reins of my hard work.” Every bit of warmth Alexa was feeling was wiped away immediately as she felt those digs throughout her mother’s words. Why couldn’t she just left it off where she had?

“While not the same reasoning or opinion on what a life’s outlook should entail, we both agree that I am not the person to take over the business now at least, so I’d call that progress. Now, does that mean when I come over you’ll stop asking me?” It was worth a try. She knew less questions about forced decisions would certainly make conversation easier.

“Maybe you could outline those future plans again and show me how you have your future ready for you. Maybe you could prove you’re an adult who knows when to stop being a kid and playing games, and actually set yourself for life. Doubtful considering your career, but intriguing as a business woman to see a plan of yours.” Alexa takes a deep breath – knowing that was a double edged sword. It was like she’d walk into a trap with her mother ready to tear apart her life, or she could prove everything she’s wanted with her to move forward.

“I think I can put something together to share with you, and hopefully you’ll see why I am doing what I am doing. I love you, Mom, and I’d hope that we can get back to that mother-daughter place one day.” She didn’t intend to allow her in, but something about this conversation felt like the door was more open than ever.

“Defying every order of mine and undermining me is not a good place to start. Good luck with your process. Goodbye.”

Alexa was surprised at the quick cutoff after showing so much heart, as well as the dial tone that followed. But after all, it shouldn’t be a surprise considering her mother.

However, it left her to wonder if all this effort was worth it just to be thrown down a tube again. Why was it so important to prove everything to her?

It had been almost a week – five days – since Emily had flipped on the idea of meeting with Bianca. In that time, you’d think the emotions would’ve gotten easier. However, another morning and she was just as emotional as the last.

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay?” Noah questions as he talks to her on the phone, as they had been doing each of the past five days.

“Yeah,” Emily answers as emotionless as possible. “I’m used to this by now, right? It’s just Paige and I, no family, no connections, and everything else seemingly falling apart surrounding that.” She then takes a deep breath, as that came out way more blunt than intended. “I don’t know why it hurts so much this time. Maybe it’s because it was right there on the cusp, maybe it’s because of what I see around me, or maybe it’s just this pandemic shit. But it hurts, Noah. I wish it was different.”

“I wish it different for you, too. I wish it would’ve gone as you hoped and you would’ve gotten that connection you wanted. But Emily, you’re not alone. It’s not just you and Paige. You have me. You have your friends. You have your friend’s significant others. I’m sure once my family gets to know you, they’ll take you in as one of our own – especially my grandma. I think even Brendan likes you.” She had to chuckle, knowing the first time she crossed paths with him didn’t go as well as she hoped.

“Even if he thought I was crazy?” Noah laughs as he remembered the comments Brendan shared in that moment as she approached after her discussion with Paige, as well as the moments afterwards.

“He actually told me that you were perfect for me because you were crazy enough to deal with my antics, as long as I was crazy enough to handle yours.” She could only shake her head, though was not surprised based on what she knew of Brendan.

“I kept telling myself to be afraid of falling for you, but now having known you for four months, I don’t know why I was afraid. You are the best thing that happened to me, Noah. I mean, you’re always there for me, and no matter what’s going on, you can make me feel better. I love you….” Noah couldn’t help but smile as it was the biggest compliment he could receive.

“I love you, too, and if you are feeling lonely, remember what I told you. We can always work it out within my schedule and your schooling to spend time together.” Emily glances over at the homework on her desk with a sigh. Given her emotions the past couple days, it had stacked up more than usual due to not getting things done accordingly. It’d probably be the worst time for her to take a break.

“I wish I could just drop everything and run into your arms every day, but I’m committed to my education and my dreams. I need to get my school work done. I need to get my classes done. However, summer is just around the corner and then we’ll have months to spend together.” Noah had already looked at the calendar, jotting down her final days of exams with plans to meet up immediately the next day, or that night so be it.

“I’m counting down the days already. I can’t wait to see you. I wish we were racing at California just for that reason this year.” Emily had to admit – being out there for school, she had chose to skip thinking of attending the race last year. She knew this year would’ve been a totally different story.

“Let’s face it – you love ripping the top there just as much as Homestead.” Noah laughs, as everybody who even remotely knew him could tell that was a lie.

“Homestead is my favorite track, bare nothing else. Nothing will change that, ever.” Emily knew that, but was ready to play along – procrastination was setting in.

“I bet I could make California your favorite by simply being there. It’d become your favorite due to getting to spend time with me.” Noah just chuckles.

“Time and place doesn’t matter as I can spend time with you anywhere…” He certainly knew how to burst her bubble quickly.

“I look forward to that, every single minute and second Noah.”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 26: The DNA Plan

Wednesday, March 10 – North Carolina

Ryan walks into the room, stopping in the doorway as he watches Samantha with the papers spread across the living room table. Normally, it’d just about analyzing her doing what she does best.

However, he couldn’t stop thinking about the news they received on Saturday.

“So what is the next step you’re planning on taking?” Ryan questions, catching some intrigue from Samantha. Normally, they didn’t talk a lot about her work. However, it seemed that question wasn’t even on the table in knowing this was about her, and other possible connections.

“I was thinking of reaching out to Dr. Lipton to see if he has any information,” Samantha answers, knowing that’d be following the normal role of protocol that she’d follow with any other case. There was no need to treat her own differently, right?

“What if he becomes very defensive? What if he does something in return? What if he believes you’re getting too curio-”

“I’ll handle it, as I always do. Just because this is about me doesn’t change protocols. I’ll see what I can get, see how far I can push without over the bounds, and go from there.” She then returns back to her notes, having done some research over the past days about the doctor, his doings in the hospital, and any publications online.

“It can’t be coincidence that you were both born in the same state on the same da-”

“Coincidences happ-”

“I’m sorry, but this goes beyond the normal level of doubt here. I can’t believe I could be dating his unknown twin.” Samantha nods her head, having allowed the thought to cross her mind a couple times. It seemed so weird and strange with how their lives had played out to this point.

“They say some things happen for a reason. Maybe there’s a reason Paige and I became friends, and maybe there’s a reason why we were introduced to your lives.” Ryan still couldn’t believe it, no matter how he thought about, as he glanced towards his phone which now rested on the coffee table.

“I want to call him, tell him, see what he sa-”

“Do you realize what is going to happen if this is true, even not true? We’re going to blow his world apart, Ryan. He had no absolute clue, thought of a chance that he was a twin. You’re flipping everything he knows on its head. Beyond that, what do you think his parents are going to think? They were lied to by the doctor, the one person that you should be able to trust. They never probably had a thought of her being pregnant with twins. Do you honestly want to see that reaction? And what if you throw this at him, just for it to not be true at all? Like we said, it may be a coincidence – very strange coincidence, but there’s still a possibility.” Ryan nods his head, as he didn’t even know if he’d have the ability to process all that. Even worse, he was still trying to process everything laid down before him. “I think until we know the truth, we should just stay the cours-”

“What if we run a DNA test?” Samantha’s jaw drops as he watches Ryan closely. “He’s my best friend. I can easily get him to come over and spend some time with me, drink a couple beers or whatever, and collect a swab off of that. It’d you give the answer you possibly want without approaching a doctor on knowledge nobody should know.”

“I hate going behind his back, I hate watching you go behind his back – but that actually isn’t the worst idea. It’d give me something concrete to approach Dr. Lipton wi-”

“You wouldn’t need to because if the DNA is sibling related, then that proves everything.” Samantha smiles as he knew Ryan’s plan was focused on keeping her safe, and not chancing any luck anywhere.

“Alright, we can try the idea that you have. I’m willing to play ball – but Ryan, we need to be careful with this. I don’t want to throw his world into a ball of fire over a simple possible coincidence.”

“He’s my best friend, Samantha. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt him.”

Thursday, March 11 – Los Angeles, California

Emily takes a deep breath, before standing up and making her way back and forth in the room. Any minute now, she knew there’d be a call coming from Bianca. She knew what the topic of conversation would be. She knew the offer that’d be placed on the table.

The only thing was every nerve filled her about every possible answer – whether good or not, and what happened beyond that.

The nerves didn’t get a chance to last much longer, though, as the phone alongside her began to buzz.

“Hey Bianca,” she answers, trying to remain as casual as possible.

“Hey sweetheart, how are you?” Bianca immediately responds, playing the role of casual aunt in her response.

“I am doing great, just been balancing school and life.” That seemed to be more than true these later days in knowing more was on her mind than usual.

“Is everything okay?” Emily felt a lump forming in her throat. She had already said too much and she wasn’t quite ready to do that with Bianca.

“Absolutely. While it’s a balancing act, things have been going great – from school, to personal life. It’s certainly been nice connecting with you.” Sweet talk would get you what you wanted, right?

“I hope that means you’re willing to consider the offer on the table.” Emily takes a deep breath, knowing that was exactly why they’d set up this conversation beyond anything.

“I would like to meet up with you actually, whether that means you come here or I come there. That said, though, I’d like to work it within my schooling schedule – and at a time when my boyfriend can be there with us. I trust you, but I’d just like the extra secur-”

“You don’t need to explain as I imagine there’s apprehension for several reasons.” Emily immediately thought back to her conversation with Paige, now regretting this whole ordeal.

“I’m sorry, but is there something that I should know?” She knew it was reaching for straws, but she might as well have the deck completely laid out on the table.

“You’re apart of this family, so nothing should be of a surprise for you. I haven’t done anything wrong, always tried to play the right cards, but it seems to always surround us. It’s what got your father caught in the web and why he eventually turned into whom he became. It has attracted others in the family, and sweetheart, I can’t say that I can just cut ties with everyone so easily as your sister was able to do.” In other words, it seemed like a big alarm was going on in her head as it aligned exactly with what Paige had said.

“I want to meet you. I want to have this connection with family in watching my friends have that, but I am not doing it if it results in danger, wrong doings, and shit interfering into my life. You say you can’t cut the ties, so can you make a promise either way?” It was worthy of asking, as now she debated even offering the connection in the first place.

“I wish I could but I cannot. I don’t know if well we’re meeting someone else may show, or if our connection may spark something. I am not about to promise something I can not guarantee.” Emily nods her head, eyes immediately glancing down as she takes a deep breath. She hated to fall into Paige’s protection bubble once again, but the worries kept making the butterflies flutter that much more.

“Then I’m sorry but I am going to have to cancel this arrangement. My warrant for family does not outweigh my need for safety. Let me know when you can draw the line.” Emily then hangs up the phone, knowing she’d probably succumb to the pleads and wasn’t about to open pandora’s box today.

Tears in her eyes, she glances at her text messages, wishing it was still earlier in the week and she could crawl back in the a pair of strong arms. Instead, though, she was stuck sending the same message to both Noah and Paige all alone in her room.

Emily
10:52am
The deal with Bianca is off. The apprehensions were all true.

Noah
11:00am
Are you okay?

She hadn’t expected to see a response that quickly, but certainly appreciated how much he cared about her – and how far he was willing to go for her.

Emily
11:02am
Paige warned me so yea, I guess.

She knew that was a lie, but she knew class was soon and getting into a whole emotional download was probably not the best course of action.

Noah
11:05am
Text me after class if you want talk. I should be done commitments. Love you ❤

A smile came to her face in reading the message, as it was so adorable how he memorized her schedule, and was willing to be there as much as he could. Though she also wondered if he saw through her words and now wanted to ensure he was there for that reason.

Paige
11:06am
Text me if you want to talk.

Paige had wanted to say more. She had wanted to hit dial and go on about every emotion on the table. Actually, she also wanted to rub it in and see just how close she was to the truth, serve as a reminder to Emily to take care of herself. However, she was trying to be better, give her the space that she wanted. So therefore, it was just left at those simple words.

Besides, Paige had another topic on the table to take care of.

Finding time in their lives wasn’t the easiest thing, given how busy it seemed Chase was lately between trips to Hendrick Motorsports for conferences, media obligations, as well as keeping those marketing partners happy. It was why she hadn’t been able to speak about what she wanted to – yet.

However, they had a whole afternoon together and it was why she wanted to discuss everything. She wasn’t about to back of the deal with Samantha, even surprised that Ryan now knew the truth. She wondered if that meant Samantha had been able to unsurface stuff, but hadn’t gotten any messages to tell her otherwise.

“So what’s on your mind?” Chase questions, as Paige had asked if he was available for the afternoon to talk, unsure whether there was another schedule conflict or not.

“We’ve had a lot of stuff going on these past couple weeks,” Paige starts as she tries to get herself comfortable on the couch. Why was she nervous all of a sudden? “I’ve tried to open as I can about my feelings in regards to fears, parental issue, future – whether that’s regards to my job, or our future together. We both know that I’ve gotten the job, and it’s working good so far. But I feel there’s so much unanswered on the table…”

“In regards to?” Paige finally allows herself to look across the piece of furniture into the eyes before her.

“You. I want to know what you’re feeling, Chase. I want to know what you think about everything that I am telling you. I want to know what you think about how we stand right now, what I am saying to you, and your feelings. It’s time to talk about us.” Chase nods his head, understanding where she was coming from. The topic did not surprise him, considering he was always one to care about the other person, putting aside himself.

“As long as you’re comfortable and happy, truth be told, that means everythi-”

“Chase….” He then looks her slightly surprised. “That is what I’m saying, though. You just spill your thoughts into what I am feeling. But what are you feeling? What about your nerves? What about where we are? I want your sole focused on you take.”

“If I really sit down and think, sometimes I worry about us and the trust that we have together. It’s been almost a year since we met, and yet there’s conversations we have that almost feel like it’s in those first couple months. I question how much you trust me sometimes. Like, when you were worried about finding a job and I said I could handle things for awhile, take the stress off your shoulders, and you didn’t have any part of it. It makes me wonder sometimes if we’ll ever get to that point in the relationship where we can totally trust and do anything for each other. I don’t think about it often, but I do once in a while.” Paige glances down, knowing all too well the reason, the same way she was overprotective over Emily and why she got a lecture there as well.

“I can’t help but question people’s motives and reasons, because my parents….” Chase reaches out, placing his hand on top of hers. He knew as soon as he released the truth, she’d be hurt and was prepared to do whatever necessary to rectify that.

“I know, and knowing your story and everything you’ve been through, I understand. That’s what I remind myself of – your story, your reasoning, and convince myself to give you a break. It’s why I haven’t told you before. Time fixes all wounds, and I know over time it is going to get better – as I show you time and time again that you can trust me. It is already showing that it is improving. I believe we’ll find our place, maybe longer than others, but I know it’s worth it because of how much I love you.” A small smile forms on her face as she allows herself to focus back on those eyes, trying to read beyond them into the sole.

“Chase, no matter how many times it may seem like I’m pushing back, I want you to know that I love you, I care about you, and I would do anything for you. I hate myself for making you feel this way, and I want you to know that it doesn’t have to be one-sided. Don’t be afraid to tell me. Tell me, so I can understand and maybe I can be better. I want to be better for you, for Emily, for everybody…” He nods his head, accepting, as he takes a deep breath.

“It’s frustrating at times, admittedly, because I feel I have proven it to you so many times already. But I won’t change what I said – you’re worth every minute because every damn second we spend together is amazing. I can’t wait to say that I’ve been with you, Paige Porter, for a whole year.”  She smiles as it certainly had a ring on it, and surprised her given her lack of ability to commit to someone.

“I have no problem with saying that I spent quarantine with Mr. Elliott.”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 24: The Invite

Monday, March 1 – Los Angeles, California

Following a night a tears and emotions, Emily was glad that she had an excuse to skip out on school that day. While Noah insisted he’d be fine by himself for a bit while she attended class, set to focus on Las Vegas preparation anyway, she was not about to have any of it in wanting to take advantage of every single moment they were getting together. It was why she had gotten the lesson plan ahead of time, and done the extra work so it wasn’t even a worry on her mind.

Though a clear mind allowed her to solidly consider everything laid out in front of her in regards to Bianca, with a decision set to be made.

“Pandemic be damned, I offered to meet up with Bianca – whether here in California or back in New York,” she reveals to Noah as they share lunch together at one of her favourite spots in town. “I know Paige is all worried about Bianca’s connection to the family and everything that may come with it, but I feel she deserves a chance in our lives after everything she’s done for us. Hopefully she doesn’t screw it up.”

“What if she does?” Noah wonders, knowing that was certainly a good possibility based on Paige’s words.

“I suffer the consequences, right? Part of growing up is making decisions and living with the consequences. This is my decision, whether Paige or you or anybody likes it – although I would appreciate your support.” Noah smiles, reaching over the table to place his hand on top of hers.

“I always have your back, no matter what. If you want, I can be your back-up for whenever this meeting happens.” Emily looks over, a little surprised, not expecting Noah to quite step up right away in that regard. She had been planning to ask him to accompany her, afraid he’d insist Paige play the role instead.

“I would appreciate that, actually. While I am going to tell Paige that I am doing this and she’s welcomed down the road if she wants, I’d rather have you there for the first meeting – just in case.” Noah nods his head, feeling more comfortable with the scenario as he was unsure which direction this could go with Bianca. He wouldn’t want anything to happen to Emily since they just got everything on the table.

“Besides, it’d give me an excuse to spend more time with you…” Emily smiles as there was nothing wrong with finding every walking excuse to spend time together. “Truth be told, I can’t wait until you’re done school so you can regularly travel with me. I mean, you can submit designs and proposals on the go, help build my brand, and only miss out on weekends when you have a must-attend show.”

“I suppose that’s not a bad offer in all reality. I heard the perks that come with it are even better.” Noah nods his head, knowing that he’d be fully taking advantage of that time. Truth be told, he wasn’t ready to leave her on Tuesday night and head to Las Vegas. He wished that she’d be boarding the plane alongside him, just like she did a couple months ago.

“For the record, the shirts that you made the suggestions on with regards to changes and layout are the ones selling more so than others on the website since the launch.” Emily rolls her eyes, not sure if she wanted to believe him as it may just be a way to flatter her at this point. “I even brought you some merch of your own.”

“Oh, so because I’m dating you, I got to share with the world….” She then accepts the package, pulling the shirt out of the bag with a smile. While she was content on bitching and moaning, she admittedly would probably wear this shirt more than most in her closet. Everything about the design, and the moment brought a smile to her face. “You know, while Paige was always watching every single race, I would tune in here and there. I ended up watching Bristol with her and Chase that night, and I remember when you got into Justin. The comments from her – you wouldn’t even want to know what she thought of you as a driv-”

“Dirty, spoiled rotten, over aggressive, pain in the ass?” She chuckles as those words had certainly crossed the floor that night.

“I remember Chase standing up a little for you, in saying you probably didn’t mean to totally dump Justin, the relationship looked better than it was, and how drivers are going to go for the win no matter wha-”

“The same way he spun Blaney at the Clash. I wonder what she had to say that night…” Emily couldn’t help but chuckle once again, remembering the discussion she got to overhear between Paige and Samantha.

“I thought I was going to be witness to a catfight, followed by both girls going after Chase actually. I was honestly surprised how upset Paige seemed to be about Chase’s decision that night.” Noah couldn’t help but be a little shocked himself in hearing the explanation. “But that night for Bristol, I sat there in amazement. I couldn’t believe that someone would push the boundaries so far, do whatever it took to get what they wanted, and even stand by those words with the world at their doorstep ready to shut them out and call them the worst person ever. I think that’s the first night you caught my attention and I didn’t even realize how much at that moment. I found myself watching a little bit of you moreso than others when I watched the odd Xfinity race – and Chase kept blaming it on you having the same car number. I wonder what he’d say now.”

“I can tell you that the moment I laid eyes on you at 5 Flags, you had my heart captured more than I wanted to realize, either. I probably didn’t realize how much you captivated me because I was so focused on chasing that asshole away.” Emily couldn’t help but smile as she thought back, as Noah just came in and took over that whole situation, taking her from worst fear possible to a security she hadn’t felt in a long time.

“I guess you can be my knight in shining armour forever then.” Noah smiles, his eyes turning to the shirt that he had just given her. It seemed perfect, even beyond the Bristol story now.

“So that’s why you fell in love with that emoji story. The Bristol story is a fraud to just capture my heart.” Emily’s jaw drops immediately shocked, though couldn’t blame him for the theory.

“The Bristol story is true – I will take a lie detector test if necessary, okay? The emoji from that night is just the icing on the cake.”

“So when are we going testing?” CJ Leary questions as they sit by the sprint car together.

“I don’t know,” Alex answers honestly, not knowing what the schedule held as things seemed to be ever-changing with commitments up at Hendrick Motorsports. “I want to get you some laps before you go to Williams Grove at the end of the month.”

“Do we have options of places to test before then?” Alex nods his head, having checked with a couple of the local track owners around the Charlotte area. While this wasn’t the team effort at the level of some place like Kasey Kahne’s or Tony Stewart’s, he wasn’t able to venture into this new territory without doing his homework.

“I can’t believe them!!!” They both hear, catching them off-guard as Alexa comes storming into the race shop. CJ glances over at Alex with a look of concern, which immediately makes Alex think his lovely driver wonders how guilty he is. For Alex, though, all he can do is shrug his shoulders in return.

“Should I go?” CJ mouths back in response, earning another shrug from Alex. He had no idea where the outburst was coming from, nor could he think of something he’d done in the past 48 hours – for a change that is.

“I tell them I want to have a serious talk about everything and try and find some common ground, and they automatically assume that I’m ready for a career change. My mother called me back finally after a week asking if I’d come to my senses, and am ready to get rid of the racer and come home to business.” Alex lets out a sigh, as he immediately put the pieces together in relation to her outburst. Of course, the only thing not going right in their lives was her parents and that looked to be not changing any time soon. “I tell them that’s not the case, but rather I want to see if we can find common ground with what I’ve got going on. Boom – they don’t want to see me, and if we are to do dinner, they’re not willing to compromise schedule wise with what we’ve got going on. Can you believe that?”

“Actually, when it comes to your parents, nothing surprises me anymore,” Alex replies back to her, as CJ finally catches what is going on, almost letting out a sigh. It wasn’t like he wanted to be stuck in the midst of a relationship fight. “But at least you can have peace in knowing that you tried to reach out and fix things.”

“Do I look like I am very peaceful right now, Bowman?” Alexa snarks back in return, causing both Alex and CJ to want to take a step back but unable to as they leaned against the sprint car.

“Obviously in the middle of it, you’re not going to be peaceful as I get it, it hurts when they keep turning you down. But you will come to an understanding when you think about it later.” Alexa just lets out a sigh, rather wishing this wasn’t even a topic on her mind. Why did Alex have to keep bringing it up and stick it in her mind? Why did everyone always have to talk about their parents?

“Have you tried asking them for an explanation?” CJ questions, nervously as he hoped he wasn’t overstepping his boundaries.

“They don’t agree with my career choices or decisions, rather thinking I should focus on the family business,” Alexa explains. “They think my decision to be involved in motorsports is a very dangerous, unconscious, no life direction, just wanting to be a kid always and run away from my life.” CJ was surprised by how direct she took the approach immediately, though not shocked in her words. Those seemed to be the typical answers you’d get from nervous parents.

“Have you asked them why they want you to be involved in the family business?” Alexa shakes her head no as CJ takes a deep breath. “Try that approach. Ask them why they want you to be involved. Ask them why they’re so set on that life approach for you, why it is believed to be the one final destination. Maybe you can find some understanding in where they’re coming from and offer them an explanation for what you did instead, rather than trying to force your single-minded although correct viewpoint.”

“When did you become a psychiatrist?” Alex says, slight chuckle laced in his voice, though immediately falls flat as Alexa keeps her eyes focused directly on CJ and his words. She’d tried the same approach for years now since she was a teenager. Maybe he was actually onto something.

“I’ll give it a try,” Alexa answers to the surprise of Alex. “I mean, what’s the worst that could happen, right?” CJ nods his head, a small smile as it was nice to find a small solution to the problem.

“As for you, I am smarter than I may seem – even if the same can’t be said for yourself,” CJ comments, earning a mix of hurt and shock in return from Alex as Alexa chuckles in return. “Not everybody is just focused on cars, uncrustables, and animals.”

“What’s wrong with uncrustables?” Alex questions, knowing CJ couldn’t argue in response as he was seen snacking just as much as the boss around the shop.

“Speaking of which, do we have to pack extra uncrustables once we go racing? I know attendance is limited for NASCAR events, but dirt is a little more open on who can come, and you’d have the excuse of keeping an eye on us all for the boss.” Alexa knew CJ was certainly after her heart with that comment as any offer to be closer to the action than she already was didn’t ever seemed to get turned down. The only drawback was wondering who would start rumors when she’d be going to events without Alex, but then again, it wasn’t like anyone’s words bothered her.

“You don’t have to ask me for permission….” Alexa looks over, shock on her face in hearing the simple comment from Alex. She was determined no matter what happened in life, there was no way she’d allow a single man to ever dictate her life.

“I would hope not,” Alexa comments, which resulting in Alex taking a deep breath, knowing her stance on topics of this nature, already regretting the comment. Considering her parents, though, he understood where everything came from.

“I didn’t mean anything by it…” He pleads, reaching out for her hand, placing it on top of hers. “Relax, I wasn’t trying to offend you or anything, okay? I get it, I really do. I’m sorr-”

“No, I’m sorry.” She then takes a deep breath, allowing their eyes to lock together. “I didn’t mean to snap at you. It’s just everything about my parents has me whirlwind pissed off. How can you follow your passion and have two parents, who are supposed to love you no matter what and support you, be like this? I hear people wishing they had parents, when reality is, sometimes I think they’re better off without them.”

“It’s going to work out, Alexa. We’re going to find common ground. But regardless, you should not let them define you and who you are. You are an absolutely amazing woman for whom you have grown up to be. You inspire so many in how determined you are in chasing your dreams. You make others watch in amazement at your talent. Beyond that, you’re so damn sexy and I love you for every bit of what I just told you. Just because two people don’t agree with you doesn’t mean that you’re wrong, or you should crush your thoughts. Instead, prove ‘em wrong and make ‘em weep by having more success than they can even imagine. Haters are motivators. Your parents may not be quite haters, but let them fuel the fire in you to prove every doubt they have wrong.” A slight smile forms on Alexa’s face as she allows Alex to bring her in for a hug. “I love you, Alexa.”

“I love you, too. Thank you..” She then looks into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’d do without you sometimes. You help me stay grounded.”

“I don’t know what I’d do in this crazy world without you sometimes.” The pair then share a kiss, totally forgetting CJ was sitting right there – until they slowly pull apart and Alex notices the pair of drinks sitting on the floor. “Should we tell CJ that we can’t do this without him, either?”

“I guess he’s an important part of the puzzle, too….” The pair then laugh as CJ just rolls his eyes, used to the antics with the pair of them.

“Truth be told, I probably wouldn’t want to do this racing journey with a lot of other people,” CJ confessed, resulting in Alex to make a heart shape with his pair of hands. “But reality is I’m probably one of a few that’d put up with you.”

“Hey now!” Alex lets out, as chuckles are shared all the way around.

Alexa didn’t know what the future held with her parents, as truth be told, there was a good chance nothing may change. However, she knew no matter what, she was surrounded with love, a love that she never expected and was certainly going to cherish.

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 23: Brutal Honesty

Sunday, February 28 – Los Angeles, California

Noah brought the smoothies back, handing one for Emily, before sitting down alongside her on the bench. They then glanced out overlooking the hustle and bustle of the city, both trying to get their minds off what they had in mind.

Emily had contacted Noah earlier in the week, wanting to put more belief into their relationship and prove every doubt Paige placed in her mind wrong. After getting his thoughts on Bianca, she thought it was finally time to open the door and divulge into the full details about what happened with her parents.

It was why he agreed to fly out to California to spend a couple days with her before his home race in Las Vegas. It was also a good opportunity for him to hand deliver some of his latest merchandise that was launching on Monday, which she had a small hand in designing. While it was not her own work entirely, she had offered her suggestions over to the artist in certain layout designs to utilize with the emoji characters.

Now she just wanted to run away from the discussion all together.

Noah, meanwhile, wanted anything to get his mind off what happened just the night before in Florida. He should’ve had another trophy to add to the mantle, a big checkmark on his list in accomplishing a win at his favourite, most dominant track. How do you go from a nine second lead to wrecked? It was just mere chance that David Starr blew the tire there, slid right up into his lane, and it ruined every chance he had and took him from hero to zero instantly. It was just part of racing, but it sucked so much more than he could put words into place.

Emily knew how upset Noah was about the finish, and even suggested putting off their discussion – perhaps it was a good excuse to do that, anyway. She thought they should focus on his feelings and moving forward. Instead, Noah insisted they have the discussion as it’d take his mind off what happened, and she always came first beyond anything else – strange for him to even think he said that.

“Have you been open to anyone about this?” Noah questions, to which Emily shakes her head no. “It’s that painful, huh?”

“I like to pretend and live in an alternate world where it didn’t happen sometimes to avoid the pain,” she openly admits, slowly sipping on her drink. Why wouldn’t something happen to change the direction of discussion? “I don’t know what came over me the other night to say that I wanted to tell you, but I can say there’s something about you that I don’t see in anyone else that I’ve ever met or spent time with. I feel like I can instantly trust you and be vulnerable with you, and just spill everything and use you as a rock in a way.”

“Maybe it’s because we’ve both been down these roads…” He then glances out towards the boardwalk, taking a deep breath. “I haven’t had it as bad as you have, but I know what it’s like to watch your parents not live up to expectations, make mistakes, and your life shatter around you. I know what it’s like to let people in, for them only to backstab you with comments you wonder where they even thought of them from. Maybe that’s why it’s easy – because I can relate and understand.”

“Even if my sister thinks sometimes that I am crazy for immediately trusting you?” Noah chuckles, remembering those words from Paige very easily. He was shocked a little to hear them, knowing whom Paige was friends with and how she knew the racing circle, but it was also understandable at the same time.

“She’s your older sister. It’s her job to protect you, and as you were saying with Bianca, she’s done that for a long time now.” Emily nods her head, remembering through the first months after everything with her parents, and even before then.

“It hurt so much to fight with her that night in Daytona because we’ve never done that. For my entire life, she’s always been that person to where I could count on, she’d do whatever to protect and help me – hence why I see where she’s coming from, too. I don’t think we’ve ever known any different – the Porter sisters against the world so to speak, ready to tackle on any challenge. I keep saying this thing with my parents is a one scenario ordeal, but it goes back further than that…”

“Take your time…” Noah reaches over, lightly placing his hand on top of hers as a sign of comfort.

“I never knew or understood it as a child, but some of my earliest memories of my parents are of them yelling and screaming. I remember waking up when I was little to the sound of my mother crying, and I asked her what was wrong and she told me, ‘Oh, it’s okay sweetheart, it was just a movie that made me cry,’ or blame it on some random sad affair in the news or some small trouble at home. I even remember a nightmare I had when I was around 10 of the slap of a belt against skin, a pain ripping sensation. I heard all these sounds, and began to believe that parents fighting was just part of the DNA. I even said to Paige one day that I never wanted a child because I didn’t want to become my parents and fight, if that’s what parents always did with children. It was only when I was older that I began to understand my father was very abusive towards my mother.” Noah takes a deep breath, slowly letting everything sink in that she was sharing with him in that moment. He knew things were rocky on his side, but knew they didn’t compare to anything she had been through.

“So everything you heard, it was your father putting your mother through that. Did Paige know?” Emily nods her head, as she wipes away the couple stray tears that had began to fall.

“She began to understand, being four years older than I was. She tried to run interference, doing small things around the house so that way my father didn’t have reasons to yell or get mad. She also tried to take care of me as much as she could so that way my mother didn’t have to worry. I always told her that she was the amazing, perfect older sister – not realizing she was going beyond those normal boundaries that you’d know because of what was happening.” While Noah had his frustration with Paige’s words and actions, everything became more clear by the minute in knowing what Paige had witnessed, not wanting to repeat the road, and still fulfilling the motherly role for Emily nowadays.

“I knew your sister had done a lot for you, but I couldn’t even imagine. Smack me the next time I complain about her, please…” Emily had to chuckle a little as she finally takes her eyes off the ground to look over at Noah.

“I don’t think I could do that because let’s face it, she needs a good lecture sometimes here and there – even if I practically owe my life to her.” Emily’s eyes fall back on the ground, as she allows the emotions of everything – pain, anger, sadness, to continue to flood her heart as she finds the words to say. “You could feel the tension growing in the house. When I was 11, I had gone out to a friend’s house and I was heading home later. It was Paige who met me partway on the way, and said we weren’t going home, but rather to Aunt Bianc-”

“And Paige was 15, right?” Emily nods her head, as she takes a careful shaky deep breath. She wished she could wipe this entire night out of her memory forever.

“I was confused, but I agreed to the request. Bianca had called us both over because the police had informed her they found my mother’s dead body in the house after the neighbor called following a lengthy argument. I couldn’t believe it. I mean, my mother was gone just like that – and I wasn’t even a teenager yet. She would never get to see me graduate, go to my first big dance, meet my first boyfriend – anything. My world just shattered to the pieces, and I imagine the same for Paige, too.” Noah could already see where this was going, knowing how he and his sister always tried to be each other’s rock without emotions about the happenings.

“Paige played it off strong, not wanting to show off any of those painful emotions to protect you, right? Her sole focus became worrying about you and ensuring your future and that it didn’t ruin you – allowing herself to suffer away from you.” Emily nods her head, though knew she’d never fully learn the truth in how Paige handled everything as they never talked about it together.

“Bianca agreed to take us in at that moment, with the police set on capturing my father for my mother’s murder. He was arrested, got out on bail somehow, and ended up committing suicide. We learned later on as we got older that he had a lot of mental health issues that were never properly addressed, but it was almost too much to bare in learning both ends at the age of 11 within three months.” Taking his hand off of hers, he in return wraps an arm around her, pulling her close to him as the tears begin to fall steadily down her cheeks, the emotions finally coming out.

“I can’t even imagine. I don’t even want to know how much pain that gives a person….” Instead, though, it made him further understand Paige’s constant worry and mothering of Emily, and wanting him to promise to give her the benefit of the doubt for forever moving forward.

“When Paige turned 16, she made the decision for us to leave New York because the reminders of everything around us – whether friends, family, places, the house – it was too much. She felt a change of scenery, a new place for our roots, would allow us to reset our lives….”

“But you both also learned that you cannot run from your problems and emotions, as they always remain with you and have to be faced eventually – as you are today.” Emily slowly nods her head, wiping the tears off left, right, and center. “Hey, it’s okay to cry. Actually, it’s better to cry and let it all go. You’ve held it together for way too long, Emily. Let it go… “

“I always asking myself one question – why me?” The tears began to stream down her face even more steadily, as Noah fully embraces her, allowing her to bury her head into his chest, with his shirt getting soaked by the passing second.

“You’re going to be okay, Emily. I’ve got you, and I’m never going to let anyone put you through that pain ever again, forever, and always. I love you….” After what seemed like an eternity, she slowly lifts her head off of his chest and looks him straight in the eyes.

“I love you, too…” She then leans in, letting her lips lightly brush across his. She then relaxes, as he wipes the hair out of her face, before handing her a scrunched up napkin out of his pocket to wipe off the stray tears that remained on her face.

“I hate to see you like this, but I’m also glad that you shared this with me, trusted me enough to understand and see the pain that you’ve gone through. It means a lot to know that you love and trust me this much. It also further commits my standing to you because if anybody deserves the world, it is you..” A small smile forms on her face as she finishes wiping off the last of the tears.

“Keep being you then. Paige asked me about this, and I’ve thought about it, too, but I have no explanation for it. I’ve never taken to somebody as quickly as I have taken to you, trusting you so quickly, wanting to share this. I’ve never found myself even wanting to be as close as we already, but I wouldn’t want this experience to end, either.” Noah pulls her back close, not even caring his shirt was still damp from the tears. The closeness and comforting her overrode everything right now.

“I don’t plan on allowing that to happen because I can tell you this – you’re always in my thoughts, I think about you more than you probably think I do, and you’ve already had a good impact on me.” She allows herself to relax in his arms, knowing full well to take advantage as these next couple days would probably go by quicker than she ever could wish. It seemed every time they spend a bit of time together, it made the distance apart harder to take.

“You don’t go far off my mind, either, and that’s what scares me…” She hadn’t meant for the second half of those words to slip out, but she couldn’t take those words back anymore as their eyes caught each others.

“I know you’re enjoying every minute, but nervous all the same time, right?” She slowly nods her head.

“Is that wrong?” He shakes his head no, knowing the picture was even more clear with the truth out in the open now.

“Everything that you’ve gone through has shown you all the reasons why this should not work out. Everything you’ve experienced has saw you put your guard further up, wary of trust, and scared of fully being vulnerable in showing everything that you’ve tried to hide. It’s the same thing when it comes to me and certain people to a degree, so I understa-”

“I’m sorry, but you seem pretty far out there with everything…” He chuckles, knowing he had a good way of playing that up on social media.

“I’m not shy about my driving style or personality on track because that’s who defines me at the core, and I know those are my goals no matter what happens end of the day. But I’m talking my personal life, in keeping that separate and certain relationships guarded – like I’m talking about your situation.” She nods her head, beginning to understand what he was beginning to say. “I’ve thought about it, and wondered how I could even begin to handle things. I’ve debated how I wanted to do this because I don’t want to screw it up, it’d be the worst mistake I’ve ever ma-”

“I don’t see you screwing it up…” Noah couldn’t help but chuckle as everybody started off with those words, but regretted them months later. He didn’t want that to happen here.

“I can give you contact information to back up my claims, but I do hope you’re right because Emily, I care about you.” He then takes her hands into his, rubbing the back of them as he takes a deep breath. “I don’t want to lose what we have, but I don’t want to backtrack or ruin things for the future. That’s why I am telling you this and now straight forward. I am willing to take things as slow as you need to, even if we go baby steps moving forward. I am willing to do whatever it takes to make you feel comfortable, loved, understood, and willing to do this with me, even if it takes us years to get to a certain spot compared to other couples. Why? Because I love you that much and care about you that much. If I am ever doing something that makes you feel uncomfortable or is wrong, I want you to tell me and crystal clear. I want you to be completely honest with me so I don’t cross over any lines. Feel free to call all the shots because I am fine as long as you’re by my side, okay?” She nods her head as a small smile forms on her face.

“The same goes both ways as feel free to tell me if I do something you do not like.”

“That’s a deal.”

Fast Cars and Fast Lives – Chapter 22: Second Thoughts

Wednesday, February 24 – Los Angeles, California

Emily takes a deep breath, allowing herself to stop staring at her phone lost in space and finally hit the button to dial the number. She’d put it off long enough considering she’d been sitting there for a couple hours.

“Hey Emily,” Paige immediately replies on the background, joy and relief mixed in her response with a touch of surprise.

“Hi Paige,” Emily replies, trying to be subtle as possible. If she wasn’t so curious about Bianca, she wouldn’t had bothered calling. However, this was now a necessary evil.

She could keep going down the path she was going, and follow whatever Bianca sent her next in regards to information. She could allow them to meet and see where it took her.

However, all the fears of what had happened in the past and doubts on trust began to crept in. Why hadn’t this conversation been done sooner? Why was Bianca put on the backburner? That’s why whether she liked it or not, she needed to talk to her sister.

“I don’t want to talk about Noah or our fight as there’s only one reason that I am calling you today,” Emily starts, knowing she wasn’t about to hear about the drama anytime soon. “I also don’t want you questioning or doubting decisions. Truth be told, you’re the only damn person who would know the answers to what I’m asking so here I am. Do I make myself clear?”

“Absolutely,” Paige replies in the smallest voice possible, surprise filling her as she’d never seen this side of her sister. What was happening? Where the love and bond they had for years? This hurt more than anything for Paige to witness.

“Aunt Bianca. Is someone that we can trust?” Paige takes a deep breath, initially surprised in hearing the name being mentioned. She hadn’t heard that name since making the decision to leave New York and head south for North Carolina in desperate need of a change of scenery. However, it was refreshing as she knew part of her couldn’t thank her aunt enough.

“I had no bad experiences with her and truth be told, I don’t know if I could’ve gotten through those initial days after what happened without her support and being there. Even before the final straw with our parents Em, she was an absolute rock in someone to lean on, offer advice, and try and find refuge. I won’t forget what she did for us.” Emily opened the messages before her from Bianca, as the smile she had from the initial message returned to her face once again. Maybe there was nothing to worry about.

“Given what happened to our parents, we never talk about family or anything anymore. As I see other people relating to their family, it makes me wonder about my own history and others out there. So I signed up for ancestory.com and did some research, which led me to finding Bianca actually. She replied to a message saying she’d love to connect with me, missed me, an-”

“As much as I speak highly about Bianca, I don’t think that’s a good idea. You’re opening the door for other family members through connection to her, and truth be told, our family is a mixed bag of beans. There was a reason why I moved across the whole country, Emily. There was a reason why I didn’t want that family connection and why I threw away Bianca’s phone number.” Emily’s eyes immediately fell upon Bianca’s words about giving her number to Paige, feeling mix of emotions in hearing the explanation behind that.

“So Bianca does all these great, incredible things for you – almost to the point you have to partially thank her for the life that you have, and that’s your repayment? You’re basically punishing her due to our family, just like you punish me due to our parents. How is that humanly fair?” Paige felt a lump form in her throat in hearing the words spoken out loud – repeating what Chase had told her multiple times when they’d discussed Emily. She could honestly feel a sting on her cheek in realizing as it sunk in.

“My worry. My nerves. The fact that I don’t want to see you experience the pain ever again. The fact that I don’t want you to experience the pain at the level I felt it in getting the full blow of it. The fact that I want your life to be perfection because damn Em, you’ve already been through enough. I do this because I care, even if you’re right – sometimes it may not seem fair. But someone has to look out for yo-”

“I’m an adult, though, and I’ve had someone so amazing to be my example that I know the concept of right, wrong, and doing what I need to do. There’s also the saying that you can’t learn unless you mistakes of your own, as a sheltered world does not allow you to explore.  My frustration with you over Noah, and now partially over Bianca in what you said is because you want me in your precious little bubble, when I’m my own person. Didn’t we make it through everything so we could live our own lives, follow our hearts and desires, and do as we wanted? Sometimes, you’re right, it’s not gonna work out and I may get my heart hurt. However, I deserve to be able to experience that and make my own free willed choices after fighting through all we did for our freedom.” Paige lays back on the couch, allowing the words to sink in as the perspective her sister brought showed more maturity than she may have even wanted to give Emily credit for. Her little sister was grown up, and she wasn’t quite ready to let her go….yet.

“I can’t just shut off the switch and not worry about you, though. Hence why I said in Daytona that I was trying to respect your boundaries in not always harping on it, even if it seemingly made me wonder at times. I can’t change who I am, but I can make decisions to help it so you can do as you feel.” Emily smiles as perhaps the whole fight at Daytona was a little over the top and maybe they should’ve had this conversation sooner.

“So if I was to think about it and reach out to Bianca, would you be upset? Would you hold it over my head?” Paige bit her tongue, resisting the urge to offer the same lecture as before. She needed to treat her sister like an adult, not a child.

“If that’s what you feel you need to do, then I guess I can’t stop you even if I wouldn’t do it myself. I just pray and hope that you think it over very carefully, and think about your own safety the whole entire time. I mean, I’d hate for something to happen to you, Emily.” Emily looks back towards the message from Bianca, debating how to proceed with the next step. While she hoped the conversation with Paige gave instant definition, it brought forth a couple more questions than she thought.

“I’ll keep your words in mind, okay? Thank you….”

After a short conversation, the sisters parted – questions answered, more questions asked, and reasoning gained to fix the divide created in Daytona.

Emily had planned to return back to homework, but the messages before her on the computer screen were more intriguing. Bianca had since replied back from earlier in the week, stating she still remained in New York at the same house, offering her phone number for Emily to call if needed.

She almost picked up the phone and dialed the number. The other part of her almost bought plane tickets for New York for the upcoming school break. However, she stopped herself in her tracks as soon as the price came up. She could afford it, but realized she was doing opposite of what she told Paige she would do.

So rather than continue the process, her phone was back in her hand with another familiar number dialed.

“Aren’t you supposed to be doing homework?” Noah replied immediately, not even with the usual hello or anything. This relationship had certainly moved quicker than she ever intended.

“My laptop is open on my assignment so does that count?” She questions back with a chuckle laced in her voice, but knew she couldn’t keep repeating this process. Eventually, she knew her brain had to focus on what was there before her.

“Well, you got a lot further than I did some days so I guess I can’t yell at you.” Emily rolls her eyes, knowing that Noah yelling at her would never ever happen. They were too much in love for that.

“Let’s face it – you’ll never complain about one of these phone calls instead of my homework because you love talking to me.” She knew how to play her cards when it came to Noah now.

“You’re right, but I don’t want to be the one your sister is yelling at because you fail school due to not doing your work.” The smile left Emily’s face immediately, as it was pretty sad even Noah knew the discontent that Paige seemed to share about them. Taking a deep breath, she kept reminding her of the conversation the sisters just had.

“Give her a small break, as she’s just being the overprotective sister. I’m sure you’ll eventually win her totally over. Actually, I just off the phone with her because I called he-”

“Oh, so you’re talking now?” Emily lets out a sigh, remembering how she eventually broke to Noah about the fight that the sisters had at Daytona a couple days later. He had played the same card as Chase in insisting they talk to each other.

“I didn’t call her to make up or talk about the fight, but we eventually did. Maybe I should’ve listened to you sooner – but don’t gloat about it. I actually called her about our aunt Bianca and wanting her opinion. It’s also the reason why I called you. I trust you, Noah. I want your opinion.” It was hard to believe she was saying those words out loud – never one to allow herself to feel as much as she did with him, trust someone as much as she did, or rely on someone else’s opinion in a decision except for maybe Paige. But the biggest smile on her face said it was totally meant to be.

“I may not be the best person to ask considering my track record…” Emily didn’t need to be reminded, knowing of his history. However, that didn’t mean she was going to change her approach.

“That’s okay, because as I said, I trust your judgment…”

Taking a deep breath, she allowed herself to content the full story of why she went looking for family, finding Bianca, their discussion, as well as Paige’s opinion.

Thursday, February 25 – Dawsonville, Georgia

Paige stands in the doorway, leaning against the frame as her licks her lips, shaking her head in pure amazement.

How could a single man be so damn sexy and hot in one package just as he was?

Letting her eyes scan through his whole body, there wasn’t a single part she did not admire. While some may question him, you could see immediately his arms were toned, with the muscles peaking out enough to kick your ass if necessary. His hair perfectly captivated his face, allowing those charming eyes to sparkle when they locked on you. Get him in the right mood, and you could get the perfect smirk that’d make you melt into a puddle immediately.

“May I help you?” A voice knocks her off the thoughts, as she snaps out of her sexy daze to see that man locked on her, confused and curious.

“Just admiring my hard working boyfriend,” she comments, hoping that was enough for him to not pry about her wandering thoughts.

“You don’t normally come down here or around unless you’re either looking for me, or you’re looking for a distraction. Now considering you just said you were admiring me, I think it’d be the other option.” Like always, he could also read her like a book as he was right on cue with his description. While the conversation had gone well just the day before, it seemed her mind was back stuck on her sister, worries crept in about Noah, her future, whether she was ready to make these decisions without guidance, their relationship, and now Bianca.

“Can I just state that you’re doing quite the job at that?” She hoped the continuous flirting would stop him from prying for further details as she wasn’t quite ready to discuss yet.

“Well, I can always use a distraction from these ropes..” He then reaches out to her, pulling her close to him, placing a light kiss across her lips. You could add the taste of sweetness, combined with easy ability to caress her lips as part of the admire ability of him.

“Most girls would run at the thought of a sweaty guy, but me? I’d rather pull you even closer and soak up every bit of that scent.” She then wraps her arms around his waist, pinning him against the closest wall. Considering his busy schedule lately and her new job, combined with these other – dare she say unnecessary – distractions due to her sister and things, there had certainly been some magic missing from their relationship.

“Are you trying to seduce me, Ms. Porter?” A smirk forms on Paige’s lips, as she places her hand over the bulge in his shorts.

“It seems to be working if I dare say so…” She then brushes her finger tips across ever so lightly, enough for him to feel but create curiosity, as a light moan escapes his lips.

“Can we just skip to the good part then?” She laughs as she reaches her hand down his pants, flicking the waist band in the process, allowing her finger tips to touch his cock briefly, and barely, before removing her hand. “Teasing is a crime, you know.”

“Patience is a virtue and comes to those who wait…” She then moves away, sitting down on the bench that he had been just using before in front of the ropes. “Besides, I want to learn how these things whip you into shape.”

“Seriously?” She nods her head, trying to keep a straight face. “Because let me tell you, I can think of many other ways to use those ropes than that and they’d be a much better work out.”

“Look at you getting all naughty over there…” He walks over, standing over her.

“What can I say? You just seem to have this magic touch about you.” He then brushes a stray hair out of her eyes, staring right into them. “And I cannot deny that I want every bit of it.”

“Then teach me the ropes, and maybe the teacher will get spoiled by her special student tonight.”
